Lessons from Surah Al-'Asr
a lecture by Shaykh Ahsan Hanif
Time is money. Time is gold. We all know these famous sayings. But how many of us actually appreciate time as we should? Ibn Abbas (r.a.) narrated that Rasulullah (s.a.w.) said,
“Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.”
[Shu’ab al-Iman 9575, sahih (authentic) according to Shaykh Al-Albani.]
Time has great importance in the life of human being, so much so that Allah (s.w.t.) takes an oath upon time in the Qur’an in Surah Al-‘Asr. This short but concise surah beautifully captures the essence of worship, and Imam Ash-Shafi’i (r.h.) mentioned that if people reflect upon this one surah carefully, it would be enough for their guidance.
Join Shaykh Dr. Ahsan Hanif as we delve into the important lessons of Surah Al-‘Asr and discover the concept of time and how to make use of it wisely to be in our best state in this life and the hereafter.
